Annatto Seeds are ground in our factory by hand! This powder imparts a subtle peppery, tart flavour that enhances beef, prawns, pulses and vegetables. Annatto is used extensively within South America and the Caribbean, as well as Filipino cuisine.
For example, ground Annatto is a key ingredient for achiote paste, which is used for Latin American marinades, rubs and sauces. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean it’s used in rice and bean dishes, for stewed meats and empanadas. In the Philippines, ground annatto is known as “achuete”, adding colour and flavour to dishes like adobo and kare-kare.
The annatto seeds ground are also used around the world as a natural food colouring and even for tribal war paint! You may be familiar with the famous orange shade of Red Leicester Cheese, which gets its colouring from Annatto.
