Pimenton Picante is fiercely smoky and spicy, made from the fiery red peppers of Southwest Spain. The peppers are oak smoked before the grinding process, which gives the powder its deep, smoky flavour. Traditionally the powder is ground in stone mills to retain its natural flavours.

Pimentón Picante has a medium heat level, with a Scoville rating of between 1,000 and 2,500 units. This makes it milder than cayenne pepper but hotter than regular paprika. Did you know that Pimentón Picante is also a good source of vitamins A and E? Additionally, it also contains antioxidants that can help boost the immune system and promote overall health.

The Mediterranean’s super ingredient Pimenton Picante is essential for Spanish cooking and to make Catalonian stews and Romesco sauce. Try using with seafood, specifically for the tapas dish Pulpo Gellego (paprika octopus). Or, add to tomato-based dishes such as bolognese, chilli con carne and sausage casserole. Add to olive oil or vinegar to make a flavourful marinade or dressing.

I always buy this a few packets at a time of this spice because we love the smokiness and that it's got quite a kick to it.

I use it in lots of recipes including a smoky red pepper and sweetcorn soup, the sauce for patata bravas and stir-fried with peppers and courgettes and mushrooms to make a fajita-type dish.

Excellent quality and a strong flavour so it goes a long way. Even chilli lovers will find that a teaspoon of it packs a punch.
