Explosive, pungent and powerful the Organic Ethiopian Berbere is laced with chilli, clove and cardamom. Known as being the African Masala, it is used as a dry rub or mixed with oil or water to create a spicy paste.

With red chilli, fenugreek, ginger, coriander, allspice, clove, cardamom and ajowan, our Organic Berbere is hand-blended in small batches to create one of the most authentic spice blends on the market.

Often used to make dishes like Doro Wot and Misir Wot, try our recipes for a pumpkin stew and a typical Ethiopian lamb stew. Learn more by reading our blog Berbere uncovered.

This blend is a basic in my kitchen and I throw it on anything. Aromatic with heat but all the spices are perfectly blended. Mix it with minced garlic, chopped fresh coriander and softened butter. Perfect with char grilled chicken or fish

I lived in Ethiopia for over ten years and can say this spice is the real deal. So happy to have found a supplier of what is a unique and fiery hot blend of spices that goes so well with Chicken Stew (Doro Wat) and Beef (Zigne?).
Have a look online for recipes and adapt to suit. It can be made as a low calorie meal depending on the amount of oil or butter used. I have made Doro Wat for friends and work colleagues and its always gives them a surprise when they see whole boiled eggs in the stew ( and somewhat concerned looks).
All but one have so far been delighted with how well the eggs go with the flavours. Traditionally served on top of a gluten free flat bread called Injera, made using Teff flour, it is wonderful. Sadly, Teff is not easy to find at the moment, but can be bought from a few specialist online retailers.
