Beetroot Powder

Beetroot Powder is vivid red and gives dishes an earthy flavour. It has been used for centuries in the culinary world as a natural red food colouring. Back in the day, it was also used to dye fabrics and even hair! It has a rich source of natural pigments called betalins, which are responsible for its vibrant red colour.

Made by dehydrating and then grinding down the beetroot, beetroot powder is really healthy, retaining many of the nutritional benefits of fresh beetroots, including dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These antioxidants help promote healthy skin, too, so it’s not uncommon to find beetroot powder used in natural skincare products.

Traditional bakers might use beetroot powder to colour Red Velvet Cake. Beetroot powder can also be used when baking bread and crackers. Alternatively, try mixing through pasta dough.

You may have seen beetroot lattes sold in coffee shops. Try making at home using powdered beetroot, honey or maple syrup and milk!
