Sabzi Ghormeh, or Ghormeh Sabzi, is an Iranian herbal stew. Widely considered to be the national dish of Iran, it’s often served during special occasions and holidays, such as Nowruz (Persian New Year) and has a long history, believed to have been popular as far back as 2,500 years ago throughout the Persian Empire. The traditional stew has a bold herbal flavour with bitter, sour notes. This herb blend is based on these flavours and contains lime powder to achieve citrus notes in your dish at home.

Usually the slow cooked stew consists of herbs, black limes, meat and beans. However, Sabzi Ghormeh can be used in other ways such as with rice and grain-based dishes. It’s quite a nutritious dish, rich in protein, fibre, and vitamins. The combination of herbs and spices provide a range of health benefits such as aiding digestion and boosting the immune system.

Famously used in Yotam Ottolenghi cookbooks, this blend is essential if you love Middle Eastern food. Try adding it into homemade falafel, fritters or chickpea burgers!

Excellent service, arrived quickly, have made this dish many times, but thankfully now I don’t have to chop fresh herbs for ages! all in a nice resealable pouch, tasted great, will be using this company again.

I used this wonderful blend in an Ottolenghi Persian vegetable stew recipe, I have made it 3 times now. I had sourced most of the ingredients from Persian suppliers. These herbs added depth and flavour to a very taste dish. Ghormeh means stew and sabzi greens. Apparently this is the national dish of Iran...... green stew due to all the herbs. I would wholly recommended it to adventurous taste buds.

A green grassy freshness in rice - almost impossible to describe - but addictive.
