Ground Cinnamon has a sweet, warm flavour with notes of citrus and cloves, often associated with Christmas. Cinnamon is indigenous to Sri Lanka and is collected by grinding the bark of the Cinnamomum Verum tree. Nowadays, it’s produced in Sri Lanka, as well as Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.
In ancient times, cinnamon was considered a precious and valuable commodity, often being more expensive than gold. It was traded along the famous Silk Road and other trade routes with various European Empires fighting fiercely to control its production and supply.
