Tamarind paste is a tart, fruity pulp. Our tamarind paste is a natural product, that has not been concentrated and mixed with sugar syrup. We, therefore, advise soaking in water before use and removing any seeds and pips.

The paste is derived from the Tamarind tree, which yields long seed pods. These pods have a hard, brown shell that contains up to 12 seeds. An edible sour, fleshy pulp surrounds these seeds and is known as tamarind paste.

This ingredient provides an essential flavour to many Indian, Indonesian and Thai dishes. However, the versatile paste is also used in many kitchens around the world. Latin American and Caribbean cooking specifically use this paste in barbecue sauces and marinades.

Delia Smith showcased our this product in her book ‘How to Cheat at Cooking’ in a recipe for Goan Lamb Xacuti. This can be found on page 143 and features our Goan Xacuti curry powder.

Our popular Sri Lankan Cooking Sauces contains both tamarind and Sri Lankan curry powder.  Learn more about this product on our spice blog here.

Top quality tamarind paste. It adds a depth of flavour to many Thai and Indian dishes. I used to bring back from holidays to Thailand and India but now I just order from SP. Their packaging is brilliant

This is the best tamarind paste I've ever tasted. Cheers up any vegetable, pulse and lentil casserole. Will try on meat next.

Very pleased with this little pouch of tanginess! Made a fab tamarind and coconut rub for chicken and will use with a rice recipe from Amandip Uppal.
