The conflict is Syria is considered to be the world’s largest humanitarian crisis since the Second World War. Over 8 million children’s lives are in danger within Syria and children make up half of Syrian refugees. They have lost families, friends, homes and schools whilst struggling with daily basic needs such as food, medicine, water and warm clothing – all intensified by living in continual fear.
To raise money for the UNICEF Syria Relief fund via Next Generation London (UNICEF’s youth branch), #CookForSyria was launched. It is a nation-wide fundraising initiative curated by Clerkenwell Boy and Suitcase magazine founder Serena Guen. Designed as a celebration of Syrian cuisine it started out as a supper club, encouraging everyone, including top chefs, restaurateurs, bakers and food writers, to get involved by attending or holding supper clubs and charity bakes to raise much needed funds.
The initiative is now launching the #CookForSyria Recipe Book, a beautiful collection of recipes, photography & artwork. Syrian families have donated traditional recipes that have been handed down through generations. Celebrity chefs and award winning food writers have also donated Syrian inspired recipes. All the photographs, design and artwork have been donated and all profits from sales of the book will go directly to UNICEF’s Children of Syria Fund.
Seasoned Pioneers have pre-ordered ten copies of the #CookForSyria Recipe Book and are offering them as prizes to ten people that correctly answer the following question:
Which Seasoned Pioneers Spice Blend name literally translates to ‘Spices’ in Arabic?
Please email the URL for the correct Spice Blend copied & pasted from our website to [email protected] with ‘Cook For Syria’ in the Subject line.
Winners will be chosen at random on the 12th January 2017.
Good luck, but even if you’re not a winner, please consider hosting a Syrian inspired supper and help to raise some funds! Further information about the campaign and how you can get involved can be seen here.
